DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA — Durban United Basketball Club proudly announces the appointment of Kevin Williams Sr. as the organization’s President of Basketball Operations, marking a major step forward in the club’s mission to build a world-class basketball development program in Durban.

Williams brings more than 16 years of leadership, coaching, player development, league operations, media, branding, and international basketball experience to Durban United. His appointment signals the beginning of a bold new era for the program as Durban United prepares to create a structured pathway for men’s and women’s basketball players seeking development, exposure, college opportunities, and professional advancement.

As President of Basketball Operations, Williams will oversee the full basketball vision of Durban United, including player development, coaching structure, recruiting, basketball partnerships, staff development, international exposure opportunities, team operations, and long-term program growth.

A Proven Leader in Basketball Development

Kevin Williams Sr. has built a reputation as one of the most active and innovative basketball development leaders in the United States. Over the past 16 years, he has helped create opportunities for athletes through coaching, league ownership, media exposure, brand development, and international basketball connections.

Williams currently serves as President of the National Basketball League-United States, where he has played a major role in developing the NBL-US into a college and professional development platform for athletes pursuing the next level. His work has focused heavily on giving unsigned, under-recruited, post-grad, and pro-level athletes a legitimate stage to be seen, evaluated, developed, and promoted.

Throughout his career, Williams has been connected to championship-level success, player advancement, and program building. His achievements include:

  • High School All-American Head Coach in 2019
  • 7-time NBL-US Champion
  • 2024 Global Recognition Award recipient
  • President of the National Basketball League-United States
  • Founder of New Era Sports TV
  • Co-Founder of Gemini Sports Brand
  • Placement of multiple players into college basketball programs
  • Placement of multiple players into international basketball opportunities
  • More than 16 years of basketball leadership, coaching, and development experience

Williams’ work has gone far beyond the court. Through New Era Sports TV, he helped create a media platform designed to give athletes, teams, coaches, and leagues more visibility. Through Gemini Sports Brand, he has helped build a sports apparel and branding platform connected to basketball culture, team identity, and athlete representation.

His leadership has consistently centered around one mission: creating real opportunities for players who need a platform, structure, exposure, and development.

Building a New Basketball Pathway in Durban

Durban United Basketball Club is being built to provide a serious basketball development opportunity for athletes in South Africa and beyond. The program is designed to help players grow through organized training, competitive games, professional standards, international exposure, and a clear development structure.

With Williams leading basketball operations, Durban United plans to focus on building a complete program that serves both men and women. The club’s vision includes competitive team play, local and international partnerships, player promotion, media coverage, and a long-term pathway connecting Durban to broader basketball opportunities across Africa, the United States, and the global basketball market.

Williams said this opportunity is about more than building a team. It is about creating a movement.

“Being named President of Basketball Operations for Durban United is a major honor and a responsibility I take very seriously. For the last 16 years, my mission has been to create real basketball opportunities for players who deserve a chance to be developed, seen, and promoted. Durban has the talent, the culture, the energy, and the potential to become a major basketball destination, and I believe this program is necessary because players need structure, exposure, leadership, and a real pathway to the next level.”

Williams continued:

“Durban United is not just about putting a team on the floor. This is about building a full basketball development system for men and women. We want to help players grow as athletes, as students of the game, and as professionals. We want to connect Durban to college opportunities, international opportunities, media exposure, and long-term basketball development. I am extremely excited to get to Durban, meet the athletes, build with the community, and get started. This is the beginning of something very special.”

A Track Record of Championships, Exposure, and Player Advancement

Williams’ basketball résumé includes championship success, elite-level coaching experience, and a strong history of creating platforms for athletes. As a 7-time NBL-US Champion, he has demonstrated the ability to build winning programs, recruit talent, develop players, and establish a championship culture.

His recognition as a High School All-American Head Coach in 2019 reflects his ability to coach and lead high-level athletes. His 2024 Global Recognition Award further highlights the impact of his work beyond local basketball, recognizing his dedication to player development, leadership, and sports innovation.

One of Williams’ strongest accomplishments has been helping athletes move forward. Over the years, he has assisted multiple players in gaining opportunities at the college level and internationally. His work has focused on athletes who may have been overlooked, under-recruited, or in need of a structured platform to continue their basketball journey.

That same mission will now be brought to Durban United.

Durban United’s Commitment

Durban United Basketball Club is committed to developing a professional, high-standard basketball environment. The club’s goal is to become a destination for athletes who are serious about training, competing, gaining exposure, and pursuing future basketball opportunities.

Under Williams’ leadership, Durban United will focus on:

  • College and international exposure pathways
  • Professional team operations
  • Media visibility and athlete promotion
